1. Я бегу навстречу дали голубой,
YA begu navstrechu dali goluboy,
I run towards distance blue (ie, blue horizon),
А вокруг сияньем залиты поля.
A vokrug siyan'yem zality polya.
And around radiance floods field
Тучки белые несутся надо мной
Tuchki belyye nesutsya nado mnoy
Clouds white rush / sweep over me
Одинокого оставли меня
Odinokogo ostavli menya
Lonely [they] left me.
2. Ветер дышит ароматом полевым
Veter dyshit aromatom polevym
[The] wind breathes [the] aroma [of the] field
И живит в борьбе уставшего меня.
I zhivit v bor'be ustavshego menya.
And animates in [the] struggle tiring me
(ie, and animates me in the tiring struggle)

Far from evil [of] earth and adversity
В край небесный, где сияет вечный свет,

Gde paset na zlachnykh pazhityakh Gospod'.
Where tends [us] on grassy pastures [the] Lord.

My theory as to where he filmed this—
West of US 97 a little north of the Columbia River in Washington.
Near the Windy Flats Wind Farm.
Why do I assume this?
- It is close to the Merryhill Stonehenge Memorial just east of US 97 at the Columbia River. Simon has posted other videos from that location: The Grace of Our Lord (2 Cor. 13:14).
- In the background of the video you can see a wind farm behind him. The shape of the hill below the wind turbines is similar to Windy Flats.
- Google satellite view shows well-watered farm land tucked just north of Wash SR 14.
Scene looking northeast from Wash. SR 14 at US 97 ---
Interesting reading.
ReplyDeleteI trust you have been blessed by doing all this work.
Indeed I have been blessed. I hope you and other are too.
DeleteThanks for posting, David. I live back East, love geography and don't know any of the locations where he films, except the bridge at Natchez Trace! I ALWAYS want to know where's he's filming - such great scenes!
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome.
DeleteSimon is based in Washington State and that means between the Columbia River, the Mountains, and the coastline, he has LOTS of scenery to choose from!
I also forgot to thank you for taking the efforts to translate literally, for I'm a beginning Russian language student and get lost at how далнеко and дали are different grammatical forms of the same word! I know далнеко, but I couldn't make the leap to see and therefore understand that Дали had the same meaning, so to speak. Point: what you've done helps me learn the language in a fun way! Yes, it's not the grammar, but it does increase my vocabulary in a painless manner. Thanks, David!
ReplyDeleteFor your beginning studies, could I recommend a couple of on-line resources? Not fool-proof, but better that google translate.
Delete1) translate.yandex.com It focuses on European languages—especially Eastern Europe.
2) en.wiktionary.org/wiki/ put your word in the search and it will (usually) parse it for you. Seriously! So cool!
Anyway, God bless!
