Mowers in the Meadow

Косари на лугу   —— Mowers in the Meadow
Станислав Матковский,  Stanislav Matkovskii
Translated by David Benning

In the meadow they come
   With sharp scythes they are swinging, approaching;
The flower of God far too small
   to resist on its own.
On Your Mercy I call,
   You're my Hope and Salvation, O Lord my God.
By Mercy, by Mercy,
   By Mercy and Grace from Your Throne.

Only faith in You, Lord,
   Is my constant companion and comfort,
A faith in Your word—
   You uphold ev'rything You have made.
And I trust in You, Lord,
   That for me You are Living and Pleading;
My Rock of Salvation
   Will stand in the path of the blade.

Otherwise why do You
   Send the marvelous dew at the daybreak?
For that shows Your care,
   Which is new in its mercies each morn.
Why did You give me songs,
   And the wonderful hope of salvation?
O cast not aside now,
   O turn now Your ear to my prayer!

And the mowers at eve
   Quiet sickles and sharp scythes at twilight
The harvest is done,
   Here by Grace well unharmed do I stand.
As in previous days,
   Comes the Heavenly dew, Love revealing;
I glorify You, Lord,
   For Mercy and Love that You planned!
